The idea

“The kurta is five hundred years old. Nobody needed us to reinvent it. It needed to be recut — there’s a difference, and the difference is the whole brand.”

Hand finishing at the bench
A letter, instead of an about page

I grew up watching shalwar kameez get cut on a wooden table that is older than my father. When I moved to the States, I watched the same garment get flattened into a costume — something you wore twice a year, apologetically.

SLAY is my argument against that. We kept the bench in Karachi: Ustad Rafiq still runs the embroidery room, and his son now drafts half the plackets. We changed the fit, the weights, the collars — the things that were actually dated. We left the soul alone.

Every embroidered piece is numbered inside the collar. When you wear one, somebody's forty hours are on your shoulders. Carry them well.

01

The Cut

Architectural patterns, drafted by hand — eleven drafts before our first block earned its name. Longer lines, cleaner collars, sharper drape.

02

The Cloth

Raw silk, high twist cotton and linen blends that hold shape in heat. Pre washed so every piece lands soft on day one.

03

The Hand

Cut and finished in Rafiq's room in Karachi — six hands, one adda frame, every embroidered piece in Vol. 01. دستکاری — dast-kaari. Made by hand. It's on our label because it's true.
